Hamilton Bucking Housing Trend

House hunting is getting harder for first-home buyers, but Waikato real estate agents say Hamilton is bucking the national trend with both sales and prices below the national average.

The latest Real Estate Institute figures show house prices in December were up nearly 10 per cent on the same month in 2008, fuelled by a tight market and low interest rates.

Real Estate Institute figures show the Waikato median house price had risen $18,000 to $320,000 when compared to December last year.

Median prices were now $10,000 off the high of 2007, which sat at $330,000 according to the figures.
